"Taking" the Tour

The Tour is not something you buy tickets for, but just come on out to Tybee on a turtle hunt to find the 24 bigger-than-life-size loggerhead sea turtles on tour at 19 different locations all over the Island, just waiting for you to come and admire them.  Myrtle Turtle, Captain Jack Turtle and Tiffany Turtle are just three of these fabulous creatures on view.  Your first stop on The Tour should be to pick up a Turtle Locator Map and either print out a copy on your home computer or stop by the Visitors Center on Tybee, located in the pink house at the corner of Campbell and Highway 80 at the first stop light on the Island. Using the locator map, you can then proceed to find all of the turtles, with Bert and Myrtle standing right outside to start you on your way! The Island also has the Tybee Shuttle, which is just operating Friday evening, Saturday and during some special events (like Celebrate Tybee and Festival of the Arts,) now that the summer season is over. BUT, the drivers are usually happy to make stops along the route to let people go look at the turtles - they're even pretty knowledgeable about how to find the few turtles that require a bit of looking to find! Some of them even know a few turtle secrets you may be able to tease out of them. (But don't tease them TOO hard while they're driving!)

The project is meant to:

  • promote public art

  • increase awareness of at-risk turtle and marine life populations

  • all proceeds will go to various Tybee Island Non-Profit Organizations.

Thank you!

...and don't forget to do your part to
