She enjoyed a long career in clinical nursing after graduating from Duke University. She is married to Dr. John Gouse, has raised five children, and is the proud grandmother of three, another source of painting subjects! After much creative work of all kinds, especially in home decorating (several of her homes have been featured in magazines), gardening, and sewing, Sue became an oil painter, studying under Velda Lovell in Cashiers, North Carolina. She has subsequently taken instruction from Marcos Blahove of Tybee Island, Georgia, Paul Lucchasi of New York City and Bob Rohm of Flower Mound, Texas.

Laurel Magazine of Highlands, North Carolina featured Sue's work on the cover of their September, 2006 issue. An honorable mention was awarded to Sue at the Savannah Garden Exposition 2006, and she has been juried into several fine art shows. She has exhibited at the Trillium Links and Lake Club in North Carolina, The Savannah Harbor Club, Trends and Traditions, The JEA, and the Landings Plantation Club in Savannah, Georgia. In Savannah, her work is sold at her studio in City Market, Soho South Cafe, Gallery by the Sea, Eclectibles, Misty Marsh, and Byrd Cookie Company. She also exhibits at The Blue Valley Gallery in North Carolina. Sue’s prints decorate the walls of the Southside United Community Bank, in Savannah.

Sue is an active member of the Savannah Art Association, Landings Art Association, Tybee Art Association, Highlands Art League, Louise Bascomb Gallery, and is an associate member of Oil Painters of America.
