Extended Workshop Description

The ability to paint beautiful, realistic, luminous clouds that float over the land in a landscape painting is an essential skill for any landscape artist.  In this 3-day workshop we’ll focus on how cumulus clouds work in an oil painting; their structure, how to design individual and groups of clouds, and go over approaches to help you design the skies in your paintings in ways that enhance the landscape beneath.

Topics we'll cover include:

 • Characteristics of Cumulus Clouds
 • The Structure of Clouds
 • Typical Cloud in Sunlight/Cloud in Shadow color mixes
 • How to Create Recession in Skies with Clouds
 • Creating the Look of Atmosphere
 • Luminosity in the Sky

Using a logical specific step-by-step procedure, I'll show you an  approach to painting clouds that you'll be able to take home and apply in your own paintings.  With a mix of presentations, exercises and plenty of time to work on your own paintings with my guidance, we'll have a 3 great days of painting, learning and creating.  Group feedback session at the end of each day to reinforce what we've learned and to celebrate our efforts.
