Monday, March 13, 2006 For immediate release: FAMILY FUN ON TYBEE - SAT. MARCH 18th What: Unveiling SIX more giant decorated sea turtles as part of The Tybee Turtle Tour Where: Tybrisa (16th) Street, the one-way street to the Pier at the south end of Tybee Island When: 5-8 P.M. on Saturday, March 18th Why: Six new turtle sculptures join the Turtle Tour! The Tybee Turtle Tour, public art sponsored by the Tybee Arts Association, will unveil another six, unique, giant loggerhead sea turtles at a street party March 18th. from 5-8 PM. An additional “tourist turtle”, Myrtle, looking for Bert, continues the theme from the January event, a mermaid riding a turtle, Gullah magic, Terra Turtle, a turtle jumping over the moon and a sandcastle built on a shell continue the beginnings of this "full circle community art project". Each of the island art galleries will be open and have provided 10% off coupons. Astronomers set up at the Pier to show you the heavens by day and night add to the experience. The Tybee Marine Science Center will be open with free admission. Trolley rides will allow visitors to see each of the turtle sites conveniently. Participating galleries and businesses: Dragonfly Studio - Highway 80 Gallery by the Sea - Highway 80 and Campbell Ave Nautilus Gallery - Highway 80 Atlantic Beacon Gallery - across from 7 Flags Park Irene Sullivan Gallery - Tybrisa St. - featured opening of Tony Pandolfini exhibit Marine Science Center - free admission On the Pier – weather permitting, the Oglethorpe Astronomical Society will have a sun scope and telescopes for viewing Tybee Tours’ trolley will be available for transport to each of the eight turtle sites. * * * * * * * * * * About The Tybee Turtle Tour: The Tour is a public art forum designed to engage the viewer with humor and personality on a tour of fifty decorated statues of sea turtles.
