BABUSHKA'S BASKET
AND
THE GIFT OF THE MAGI
Two Timeless Christmas One-Act Plays!
What do the stories of a brokenhearted elderly woman in czarist Russia and a young and poor married couple living in early twenty-century New York City have in common? That the true spirit of Christmas can be found in each of us if we have the wisdom of the magi—the three Wisemen who gifted the holy child.
“Babushka’s Basket,” a Russian folk tale, tells the story of a bitter woman who is visited by one of the Wisemen and learns how to mend her broken heart by giving and forgiving. “The Gift of the Magi,” based on the classic O. Henry short story, shows how two young people will sacrifice their most prized possessions because of the love they have for each other.
In this Christmas season, isn’t it wise to remind ourselves of what we’re really supposed to be celebrating? Let “Babushka” and “Magi” be a part of your Christmas celebration.
