Bitties Ages 2-4
Welcome tiny dancers! This class will begin in a circle warm-up then travel around the room working through different cognitive skills via imagination, music, and movement. Students will build a tool box of technique and confidence to move + sharpen their gross motor skills and creativity.
4:15 PM - 4:45 PM
Sep 11 to May 28
Tumbling
This will be an all ages class where we all work to help each other extend our skills and give support. There will be two assistants, two rows of mats and props. Static stretch will start the class. We will work on forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, & roundoffs. Our tumble-tracks will consist of an airtrack and tumble mat. The class is designed to build confidence in learning new skills. When a student has mastered a skill they will move on to more advanced tumbling skills. Repetitive progression is most important in learning tumble correctly. Students will be working on tumbling skills and stretches to build overall body strength or to work towards skills needed for other sports.
4:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Sep 18 to May 28
Ballet 1 + Creative Moves
This class is for Level 1 serious ballet dancers and those looking to build a creative toolbox. I highly encourage ballet for a strong foundation and strong roots. If you can do ballet, you can do anything :) This class is designed to build strong technique, stretch conditioning, and creative thinking for one to work outside the box of ballet. Students will gain the confidence to begin creating their own dance moves.
5:15 PM - 6:15 PM
Sep 11 to May 28
BOYS Break Dance and Hip Hop!
Breakdancing was one of the four founding elements of hip-hop (Breakdancing, Emceeing, DJing, & Graffiti) created in the late 70’s in New York City during a time when poverty and gang violence where at an all time high. Being used as one of the tools to bring peace between gangs, hip-hop became the battle ground for the former gang members and breakdancing took over the floor! Starting with Uprock (The part of the dance that was done while standing) and making its way to the floor, breakdancing has evolved from its simple movements to an incredible dance form with thousands of moves and infinite possibilities! Not to be confused with Poppin n Lockin. ( A form of hip-hop dance created on the west coast in the early 80’s focusing more on isolated movements and equally important to the continuing growth in hip-hop culture.) What we will be focused on is the basic foundation of this dance form (Uprock, battlerock, six-step, and a freeze). Each one of these steps will teach self control in their own way. As wild as breakdancing appears every move has fine-tuned precision. What we will be focusing on is the movements, how they are all connected, and how to control yourself in any position. While having fun of-course!
